FRAGMENTED amalgamation is an installation work that presents fragments of local architecture in a novel composition that encourages the viewer to reimagine and reengage with familiar architectural spaces.

Building on my previous installation OPPOSITES, where I explored photographic representations of architecture and focused on the relationship between color and black and white, FRAGMENTED amalgamation investigates what these photographic representations of architecture can look like in a physical form. The result is a blend of photography, looking at how the flatness of the medium affects interpretation, architecture, and color in a way that verges on the line of becoming purely geometric abstractions of the architecture itself.

The eye is meant to follow the arrangement of the geometric lines of the different architectural units which are broken up by variations of blue, creating a cohesiveness in some parts of the composition and a contradiction in others. From the capture of the images to merging them together digitally to printing on foam board and aluminum sheets, the realization of this artwork was for me deliberate and intriguing.

FRAGMENTED amalgamation encourages viewers to think of these spaces: their impact on us, and how we engage with others and our environment. There is a sense of familiarity which pervades the work. I invite viewers to approach it with a mindful awareness of the architecture and the photographic medium itself.
